Self-care routines are officially in full swing and it’s never been more important to take care of our physical, psychological, and spiritual health, all while being deliberate and intentional in practicing restorative self-care rituals.

One key player in the wellness world is the use of essential oils, but these oils are not just having a moment, in some cases they’ve been used for thousands of years. Peppermint for example; was mentioned in records from Greek mythology, is one of the oldest herbs used in traditional Chinese medicine, and listen to this: archaeological evidence places it’s use as far back as ancient Egyptian times. Woah.

Peppermint oil has earned it’s reputation as being one of the most diverse and versatile oils as it’s been beneficial in treating ailments of the respiratory, digestive, circulatory, and nervous systems. To say this oil works hard is a severe understatement.

This magical oil possesses anti-inflammatory components that when applied topically can reduce pain such as headaches, muscle aches, and cramps. Even if you’re not experiencing pain it can help enhance concentration, boost alertness, and fight mental fatigue. Okay, sign us up please!

To reap these welcomed benefits, dilute with a carrier oil *our favs are coconut and almond* and apply behind the ears or across the forehead to alleviate a headache (or hangover). The fragrant side effects can also calm nausea and reduce irritability. We’d call that a win – win!

One active ingredient in Peppermint oil is Menthol, this component activates receptors in the skin and tissue, causing the cooling sensation upon application. In addition, the oil’s antimicrobial properties help disinfect any irritations and offer relief from itching. All of this, along with the fact that it repels bugs and insects, make it the perfect multi-purpose travel essential.

Use your diluted solution to soothe a killer sunburn, stimulate circulation after a long flight, or reduce crying-baby-induced tension. Keep it on hand to combat any cold symptoms that sneak up while traveling by using as a cooling chest rub or applying to feet to reduce a fever – all while breathing in the aromatic natural decongestant.

I know what you’re thinking right now – what can’t this oil do? With all Peppermint oil’s supernatural healing abilities, it is not surprising that it’s not only our medicine cabinet staple, but one of the most widely used and age-old essential oils to ever
exist

You KNOW Peppermint oil is at the top of our ‘stranded on a deserted island’ survival list… now if we could only figure out how to get stuck on an island…

*Please note we recommend you always dilute your oil to reduce potency, never use around your eyes/inner ears or any sensitive areas, and because of its stimulant properties you should also avoid using it every day (hard to do with all these pro tips, I know). Also remember to communicate with your health care provider regarding any integrative health approaches you’re using.
